Eastern Michigan University Enhances Security Initiatives With Verint Technology

Verint Systems Inc. recently announced that Eastern Michigan University is leveraging the next-generation Nextiva Video Management software from Verint Video Intelligence Solutions to advance the security of its facilities and further its commitment to safe learning environments. A Verint customer for over two decades, EMU is focused on protecting its students, faculty and staff, and securing its large geographically-distributed campus through cutting-edge technology.

Located in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the university is a culturally diverse learning and teaching community set in a small city environment amid a major metropolitan area. With more than 23,000 students attending academic and athletic sites, EMU comprises 800 acres with 122 buildings, 14 residence halls and three apartment complexes. In October 2010, as part of a security modernization initiative, it deployed the next-generation Nextiva Video Management software and IP cameras from Verint to help monitor and advance the safety and security of its vast campus grounds. The system was designed and implemented by long-time Verint partner Camtronics, a Michigan-based integrator of security systems.

“Verint’s Nextiva IP video solution is proving to be an impactful part of our focus, helping us meet important security objectives. Since we began using the technology, it has been key to our proactive approach to enhancing situational awareness and transforming threat detection from a manual, resource-intensive operation to an efficient, accurate, automated process,” says Greg O’Dell, chief of police, Eastern Michigan University Police Department. “Nextiva is a fundamental part of the university’s security program and vital tool in helping us maintain a safer campus by deterring crime, as well as providing forensic evidence and follow-up investigation as needed.”

With Nextiva, EMU is leveraging state-of-the-art technology to quickly resolve incidents and investigations taking place on campus grounds.

Adds O’Dell, “We count on Nextiva as a key intelligence source for video forensics and investigations, and have been amazed at the number of times we have used the system to aid us in investigations and in making arrests.”

Verint Nextiva features l IP video management solutions that streamline the management of large, geographically distributed video operations. The solution includes automated video system health monitoring for greater system uptime and lower operating costs, policy-based video distribution, intuitive live and recorded video viewing, virtual matrix, and investigation management software for faster, more productive investigations.

“Verint is committed to customer success. Our longstanding partnership with Eastern Michigan University is a great example of how we help our customers improve security and investigative tools with our innovative software,” said Debjit Das, vice president of global marketing, Verint Video Intelligence Solutions. “Our ongoing goal is to provide EMU with the solutions and services it needs to maintain a safe environment for its students, facility and campus grounds.”
