Schlage OEM100 Embedded Reader Module Provides Proximity and Smart Card Reading

Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies, a provider of security and safety solutions and manufacturer of Schlage contactless smart credentials and readers, announced that manufacturers of turnstiles, vending machines, service kiosks and other goods can now embed the Schlage OEM100 multi-technology reader module into their new products. The OEM100 reader module provides the capability to read both 125 KHz proximity and 13.56 MHz contactless smart card credentials.

“By reading both smart and proximity cards, this one module/one embedded design solution provides a more aesthetically pleasing and fully integrated way for OEMs to create product differentiation of their products from their competitors’ offerings,” said Ray Venkat, Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies vice president, marketing, commercial Americas. “Customers selecting products that incorporate the Schlage OEM technology reader will not have to upgrade from proximity to smart cards immediately but are prepared for the future so that, when their switch to smart cards comes about, they will not have to tear out and re-install the OEM’s product.

The new Schlage OEM100 reader module supports ISO Standard 14443 technologies and is compatible with Schlage and XceedID proximity credentials, certain HID proximity protocols, GE/CASI Proxlite, AWID, LenelProx and many 13.56 MHz technologies including MIFARE and Schlage aptiQ smart cards featuring MIFARE DESfire EV1. Providing compatibility with such a wide range of credentials greatly expands the number of prospects that OEMs can target with their new products.

“While 125 kHz proximity technology is the common technology in today’s access systems, 13.56 MHz smart card technology is the technology of tomorrow since it provides more security, storage and flexibilities,” Venkat said. “Since the OEM100 reader module can read both 125 kHz proximity technology and 13.56 MHz smart card technology, an OEM customer’s users can still use their current proximity credentials while migrating to smart credentials. The company will not have to replace the embedded reader once it chooses to migrate to smart card technology. The OEM100 reader module lets them migrate according to their budget and timeline.”
