Gunman Stopped by Students

Gunman Stopped by Students

Gunman Stopped by StudentsSeattle Pacific University found itself under attack recently when a lone gunman armed with a shotgun began firing at students. A 19-year-old was fatally shot and several other students were injured, but as the gunman tried to reload, another student pepper-sprayed him, and with the help of others, subdued the gunman. Action on the part of other students no doubt saved the lives of many other classmates.

The gunman, Aaron R. Ybarra, 26, who was not a student at the school, had additional rounds of ammunition and a knife. He was taken into custody.

Ybarra had recently started a new job, bagging groceries at a local market. Close friends of the gunman were surprised to hear about the attack on the university campus.

The shooting comes a week before the end of the school year.
