North Shore-LIJ Health System Chooses Perspective by PPM

North Shore-LIJ Health System Chooses Perspective by PPMIncident management software from PPM 2000, used by one in five of the Fortune 100, has been selected by the North Shore-LIJ Health System in New York State as their new dispatching, incident reporting and case management platform.

“Among their many roles, hospitals today must also serve as safe havens for patients, staff and visitors,” said Elaine O’Sullivan, PPM’s president and co-CEO. “Purpose-built incident management software can help healthcare facilities successfully achieve that goal − and do so without the pain, inefficiency, and expense typical of cobbled-together systems. We are excited about the opportunity to work closely with North Shore-LIJ to support their security expansion.”

Perspective EIM, PPM’s powerful and flexible edition for enterprise security risk management, is scheduled for staged implementation across North Shore-LIJ’s 16 award-winning hospitals beginning this summer. The hospitals are located throughout New York including Long Island, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island.

North Shore-LIJ Health System Chooses Perspective by PPMThe Perspective software replaces a home-grown system that had shown its limitations during recent episodes of severe weather and other emergency incidents. In looking for a more robust incident management solution, North Shore-LIJ’s objectives were twofold; first, the integration of disparate security procedures regarding incidents and activities, and second, a more meaningful vendor-client relationship. James Romagnoli, North Shore-LIJ’s vice president, protective service, PPM’s solution met both of these points.

“The big selling point for us was the feedback we received from other PPM clients about the level of support they provided,” said Romangnoli. “Based on this, we were confident a long-term relationship could be forged that would meet our expectations for an integrated support package.”

Romangnoli goes on to say, “The Perspective software is unique in the way it handles incidents of loss and averted loss. The information it provides allows us to put a price tag to things at the end of the day, and this makes a world of difference.”

The rollout will commence with the five largest hospitals in the system. Each of these hospitals has a full time desk officer who is responsible for incident management reporting at that facility. Implementation at the remaining hospitals is scheduled for completion over the following six to twelve months. The expanded central command center will be responsible for incident management reporting at these other locations.

A pioneer in the field of incident management, PPM developed Perspective to address the unique needs of both operations and investigations. By sharing event data and related information, both security disciplines can collaborate to identify trends, take meaningful action, and reduce risk.

Perspective takes advantage of the latest technology to facilitate interaction, communication, and integration. Event data can be imported into and exported from Perspective, expanding the number of data sources and facilitating fast incident response, complete incident documentation, and collaboration across systems, teams, and departments. Remote access through Perspective’s iOS app or web portal frees users from their desks and elevates the simplicity of both data collection and information delivery.

As the 30th anniversary of the IP camera approaches in 2026, it is worth reflecting on how far we have come. It did something that no analog system could: transmit video over a standard IP network. Read Now

  • From Surveillance to Intelligence

Years ago, it would have been significantly more expensive to run an analytic like that — requiring a custom-built solution with burdensome infrastructure demands — but modern edge devices have made it accessible to everyone. It also saves time, which is a critical factor if a missing child is involved. Video compression technology has played a critical role as well. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in video coding standards — including H.263, MPEG formats, and H.264—alongside compression optimization technologies developed by IP video manufacturers to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The open-source AV1 codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media—a consortium including Google, Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon and others — is already the preferred decoder for cloud-based applications, and is quickly becoming the standard for video compression of all types.
