Tips to Help Speed Security along at the Stanley Cup Games

Planning on going to any of the Stanley Cup Final games? First of all, be sure to post some awesome pics on Twitter! But, second, be prepared to see tighter security as officials have undergone a retraining program perhaps due to a couple of recent events.

As a giant American flag passed over the heads of approximately 200 fans during the singing of the National Anthem, a woman allegedly tried to ignite it. (Not cool. That’s our symbol of freedom and sacrifice.) Then, just few days later, a man was arrested for sneaking a gun past security; albeit, the security worker failed to recheck this man even though the metal detector had been set off. And, just hours later, yet another security worker was seen by arena officials letting people through metal detectors that had gone off without rechecking them.

With each advancement through the playoff games, security will be getting tighter and tighter and for the actual Stanley Cup Final, there are sure to be swarms of Tampa police officers. Also, the National Hockey League has a big say in security as well since they are in charge of the event, so there’s no telling what we will see.

There’s always a balance when it comes to security and the fan experience with the ultimate goal of wanting people to have a safely have a good time.

Here’s a little advice when it comes to speeding things along and avoiding a security melt-down:

  • Avoid bringing purses and bags.
  • Don’t bring weapons including guns, fireworks, pocketknives or other sharp, heavy objects.
  • Mace/pepper spray is prohibited.
