Z-Wave Labs Announces BeON Home as First Winner of Competition

The Z-Wave Alliance, an open consortium of leading global companies deploying Z-Wave, is excited to announce the first winner of Z-Wave Labs. Boston start-up BeON Home, a preventative security and safety company, is the program’s first winner and will receive Z-Wave Alliance membership and access to the new Z-Wave IoT ready 500 series development kits. Z-Wave Labs is a brand new competition to support and incentivize IoT innovation on the Z-Wave platform.

BeON Home takes a new approach to home security and safety, using intelligent LED bulbs that learn and replicate lighting behaviors to create the illusion of home occupancy and provide safety lighting in emergency and power outage situations. The addition of Z-Wave will enable the BeON system to provide a more seamless experience for owners of traditional security systems and whole home automation systems. BeON Pro, the professional version of the system launched at ISC West 2015, gives security dealers a new way to augment their offerings and sell an additional layer of preventative security and safety to complement existing products and traditional security panel systems. BeON’s vision is to make a safer, smarter home as simple as screwing in a light bulb.

“We were excited from the moment we saw the BeON Z-Wave Labs entry and learned about their innovative solution and plans to integrate Z-Wave into that solution,” said Raoul Wijgergangs, interim chairman of the Z-Wave Alliance. “The company’s unique preventative safety and security system will join our industry leading member companies in the rapidly growing IoT market.”

“Security is the most desirable feature for your home. Yet only 20% of U.S. households own a traditional security monitoring system,” said Alexei Erchak, CEO of BeON Home. “We saw this as an opportunity to create a security and safety system like no other that works for anyone. It became very clear to us that developing a Z-Wave module for our intelligent preventative security system would be a key priority for us and the Alliance’s resources in security and smart homes will allow us to speed up this development. We plan to be the first company to provide a Z-Wave based preventative security system.”

Z-Wave Labs is a global competition that launched in May 2015 and is designed to encourage IoT innovation on the Z-Wave platform. The Labs program will select a new winner each month in any IoT related industry, including but not limited to: residential, commercial, automotive, healthcare, energy, security and aging-in-place. Winners are announced and featured on the Z-Wave Labs website and on social media. Winners also get access to the Z-Wave IoT ready 500 series development kits, including the Keil PK51 Professional Developer’s Kit for the 8051 microcontroller family. Keil supports the Z-Wave Labs competition by sponsoring a one-year PK51 Professional Developer’s Kit license for every winning company.
