YouTube HQ Adding Security Following April's Shooting

YouTube intends to bulk up security at the company's headquarters after a shooting on campus that injured three people.

YouTube managers have spoken to San Bruno city officials about beefing up office security at the popular video platform's headquarters in the months after a shooting attack that injured three people in April.

As YouTube seeks to expand its office space and add thousands of workers in San Bruno, Calif. the company wants to do what it can to ensure the safety of its people.

David Woltering, the city's community director, told Business Insider that YouTube's managers discussed adding several security measures to the existing office space and new office space, including fencing, increased surveillance and improved access controls.

The video company began bolstering security at the San Bruno campus in the form of adding larger numbers of "on-site security personnel," four months ago, immediately after a woman arrived on campus armed with a 9 mm and opened fire on employees, wounding three. She later killed herself.

The attack is believed to be the first shooting at YouTube but employees have received numerous death threats going back for more than a decade.
