RGV Border Patrol to Host a Border Security Event

The 2021 Border Safety Event (BSE) will focus on the United States Border Patrol’s Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) efforts to save lives. The event will be open to local media outlets and offer a different perspective to Customs and Border Protection’s dual enforcement and humanitarian missions. The event is June 16, 9:30 a.m., at Anzalduas Park, in Mission, TX.

Agents assist in rescuing hundreds of non-citizens suffering in the harsh border environment every year. Numerous Border Patrol assets are utilized to facilitate rescues, such as: ATVs, Horse Patrol, Riverine Patrol, Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue (BORSTAR) Agents, Small Unmanned Aerial System, etc.  The unique capabilities of these assets have saved countless individuals requiring immediate assistance and/or evacuations from desolate locations.

As part of the 2021 BSE, RGV Public Affairs Office will extend an invitation to media personnel so they may showcase to their audiences the environmental challenges migrants face. The event draws awareness to the dangers associated with illegally crossing the border. Each year, thousands of migrants unknowingly embark on a dangerous, and sometimes deadly trek.
