Nothing Artificial About this Intelligence

I have been looking forward to this year’s GSX show in New Orleans, the Cresent City, or if you prefer The Big Easy. It seems like quite a while since we’ve been here. Twenty years ago, ASIS, as it was known then was literally washed out of the city by someone known as Katrina. It is a good thing to come back to NOLA.

What’s more, the product selection will be so much different. Artificial Intelligence will no doubt be the main topic(s) of conversation, and why not, how much longer will any of us keep our jobs, as noted in the May/June issue of this magazine by Steve Reinharz, founder and CEO of Robotic Assistance Devices. He pointed out that the security industry is facing a transformation like no other in history. That’s a bold comment considering the multitude of changes we’ve experienced in our lifetimes. It is, however, a true statement.

It is no secret that for decades security has been dependent upon human staffing. Mostly it was security patrol officers patrolling sites and responding to an incident. Studies have shown that after 20 minutes of monitoring, a monitor operator will experience fatigue, distraction, or gaps in coverage. After 20 minutes, an operator’s ability to detect a threat drops by 95 percent. AI changes all that as an AI-powered platform will monitor live feeds accurately, detecting unauthorized access, suspicious movement and anomalies instantly.

Here is what you’ll see inside the tradeshow hall for the next three days, lots of buzz around AI. Embrace it. It’s the real deal, and it is going to be a huge part of security going forward.
