Athena Security Launches Integrated Hospital Entryway Platform

The technology combines weapons detection with visitor management and debuts a dedicated system for emergency ambulance bays.

Athena Security unveiled a unified entryway security platform at the IAHSS Annual Conference, focusing on the integration of identity verification and threat detection. The system is designed to streamline security for healthcare environments by identifying individuals and potential weapons simultaneously.

The company is highlighting its new Ambulance Bay Weapons Detection System, which utilizes an artificial intelligence agent specifically for emergency department intake. The technology allows hospital staff to screen patients arriving on stretchers or in wheelchairs without manual hand-wanding.

The system is engineered to differentiate between medical equipment, such as metal gurneys and potential threats, addressing a long-standing security gap in high-urgency medical settings.

The unified platform integrates several security functions into a single workflow, including hospital visitor management, concealed weapons detection and person-of-interest identification. It also features AI-assisted X-ray technology for bag screening and centralized event correlation, which links weapons detection alerts directly to visitor records.

This integrated approach is intended to help healthcare facilities meet evolving regulatory requirements, including recent legislation such as California Assembly Bill 2975. By consolidating fragmented security processes, the platform aims to improve response times and provide centralized reporting for investigations.

In addition to the main exhibit, the company is conducting private demonstrations of the ambulance bay technology to showcase how the AI-driven screening operates in real-time emergency scenarios.
