Gunnebo Canada Completes Large-Scale Vault Installation

A new high-capacity vault system allows a pharmaceutical logistics provider to centralize narcotics storage under updated Health Canada rules.

In partnership with Hamilton Security, Gunnebo Canada has completed the installation of a large-scale vault for a major pharmaceutical logistics provider. The project represents one of the first facilities in the country designed to meet updated Health Canada requirements for multi-license narcotics storage.

The project involved replacing several smaller storage units with a single Class 2 vault. This transition allows the facility to store controlled substances under multiple licenses within one structure, optimizing floor space and improving daily logistics for both over-the-counter and controlled pharmaceutical products.

Gunnebo Canada managed the full scope of the installation, including the removal of existing vaults and the design of a new security perimeter. The final solution features a custom-engineered vault and a surrounding security cage integrated with a commercial intrusion alarm system.

The structure stands approximately 27 feet high, 39 feet wide, and 66 feet deep. Built with 232 Class 2 panels, the vault weighs more than 750,000 pounds. It utilizes a bespoke vault door with a 1-inch steel plate façade, designed to accommodate the high-volume movement of goods required in a distribution environment.

Technicians completed the installation over three months. The project was phased to ensure the facility remained operational during the decommissioning of old equipment and the assembly of the new unit.

The new system is intended to address long-term capacity needs and scalability while maintaining strict compliance with federal directives for the storage of controlled substances.
