FBI Counterintelligence Chief to Keynote SIA GovSummit

The upcoming conference in Washington will feature federal experts discussing the intersection of public policy and security technology.

An executive from the Federal Bureau of Investigation will headline the 2026 SIA GovSummit, an annual gathering focused on government security technology and public policy. Joshua Obstfeld, an FBI section chief, is scheduled to deliver the Day 1 keynote address for the event held May 20–21.

Obstfeld serves as the FBI counterintelligence senior executive for external engagement. His work focuses on strategic threats and coordinating policy responses between the bureau and the executive and legislative branches. His background includes previous roles as a senior national intelligence officer for emerging technologies and leadership within the FBI Newark Division.

The conference, hosted by the SIA, connects private sector technologists with government leaders. The program is designed to address security challenges facing federal, state and local agencies.

Gharun Lacy, deputy assistant secretary for the U.S. Department of State, will deliver the Day 2 keynote. Lacy oversees cyber and technology security for the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, managing the protection of more than 270 diplomatic posts.

The 2026 agenda includes sessions on artificial intelligence in weapons detection, counter-drone defense and the protection of critical infrastructure from insider threats. Additional presenters represent a variety of agencies, including NASA, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the General Services Administration.

Discussion topics will also cover the evolution of federal identity systems, school security standards and the impact of AI attacks on physical security systems. The event includes a security roundtable and networking opportunities for industry professionals and public officials.
