World of Volvo Secures Experience Center With Unified Platform

The 22,000-square-meter Gothenburg facility deploys Genetec Security Center to manage site surveillance and streamline multi-site operations.

World of Volvo, a 22,000-square-meter brand experience center, has deployed Genetec Security Center to oversee security across its main facility and a nearby warehouse.

The center opened in May 2023 as a joint initiative of Volvo Group and Volvo Cars, Sweden's leading manufacturers of trucks, buses and passenger vehicles. It features permanent and rotating exhibitions of historic, contemporary and concept Volvo vehicles, plus space for corporate events, performances and public gatherings.

More than 2,500 visitors pass through daily, prompting the need for robust monitoring aligned with Volvo's emphasis on safety. The company, long known for pioneering auto safety features, aims to extend that priority to the venue itself.

Security personnel now manage the system from a central control room. They monitor over 100 i-PRO cameras installed throughout the building, including pan-tilt-zoom, fisheye and multi-sensor units for broad coverage.

The project, completed by Swedish systems integrator Granitor, replaced fragmented tools with a single interface. Both the experience center and an adjacent warehouse run on Streamvault appliances—pre-configured servers and recorders loaded with the security software.

At the warehouse, staff use the platform's federation feature to handle remote tasks. Operators verify alarms and manage gate access directly from the main control room, without needing on-site presence.

Ulf Hermansson, facility and security manager at World of Volvo, said the setup went live quickly. "With Security Center, it’s easy to see what’s happening and make quick decisions on how to respond. The platform’s usability is great; we were up and running in half a day," Hermansson said.

Ease of operation matters, Hermansson added, because multiple guards—including external contractors—use the system during shifts. The tools support incident response amid the venue's busy schedule of events and high foot traffic.

Volvo selected the i-PRO cameras and Genetec platform to cover the facility thoroughly when it launched. Thermal cameras with pan-tilt-zoom pair with the system at the warehouse perimeter.

The approach allows scaling for variable crowds while maintaining oversight. No major incidents have been reported since implementation.
