Tulsa Deploys Solar Powered Security Cameras Across Urban Wilderness

A new off-grid surveillance network connects remote trailheads directly to law enforcement after public safety concerns at Turkey Mountain.

Public safety officials in Tulsa have implemented a solar-powered video surveillance network across a 750-acre wilderness area to increase visibility and response times following violent incidents on local trails.

The Tulsa River Parks Authority partnered with technology providers Luminys and Midwest Technology to deploy more than 30 artificial intelligence-enabled cameras throughout Turkey Mountain. The project addresses key security vulnerabilities in parking areas, trailheads and high-traffic access points across the park.

Installing traditional security hardware presented significant infrastructure challenges due to the rugged terrain, lack of electrical power lines and limited wired connectivity. To overcome these obstacles, project engineers deployed off-grid units powered by solar energy and connected through wireless networks.

The camera array includes pan-tilt-zoom capabilities and active deterrence features. Live video streams and event notifications are integrated directly into the Tulsa Police Department Real-Time Information Center.

The integrated system allows law enforcement personnel to monitor remote activity continuously and conduct rapid video searches using AI-assisted analysis tools. Officials expect the installation to serve as an operational model for municipal agencies seeking to secure remote outdoor environments without standard utility infrastructure.
