Rutherford Police Unifies Video, Access Control for Public Safety
The New Jersey department connected headquarters security equipment with cameras deployed in parks, public spaces and along Route 3.

The Rutherford Police Department in New Jersey has replaced separate legacy video surveillance and access control system into one Axis Communications system. Integrator GTBM designed the headquarters deployment around AXIS Camera Station Pro.
The project began with approximately 70 network cameras inside and outside the facility. Rutherford later extended its camera network to parks and other public spaces. The department also deployed a pan-tilt-zoom camera along the Route 3 corridor.
Headquarters security also includes door controllers, key fob readers and video intercoms. Personnel can use the intercoms to view visitors and unlock doors remotely. When reviewing incidents, department personnel can use the video management system to bring together footage, door access logs and targeted searches.
Investigators can filter recorded footage using details such as people, vehicles, colors and objects. Axis also reported that AV1 compression used by the Route 3 camera lowered the department's bandwidth and storage consumption by approximately 20%.
