Acoem Updates Target False Alarms in Gunshot Detection

Existing customers will be able to apply the updates through the company’s Cadence software platform.

Acoem is releasing two software updates for its Acoustic Threat Detection Gunshot Detection System: elevation tuning for individual sensors and refined acoustic analytics, both meant to address sounds that can resemble gunshots.

Acoem said false positives remain a challenge for organizations using acoustic detection on campuses, critical infrastructure, utilities and communities, particularly where hills, buildings and other changes to the surrounding skyline can complicate classification. Those conditions can leave security teams with more alerts to review before deciding which events need a response.

The first update, part of a new Cadence software release, lets administrators set elevation and horizon thresholds for individual sensors based on their surroundings. Acoem said the elevation threshold helps the system classify fireworks and other skyline noise as non-threats, and that larger deployments can tailor each sensor to local conditions rather than applying one configuration across every sensor.

The second update refines the system's AI-based signal and noise analytics, which Acoem said are intended to better detect anomalies and reduce false positives. Both build on existing features, including shockwave-enhanced muzzle-blast detection, an onboard AI neural network with 96-attribute analysis, local verification at the sensor and automatic direction of connected PTZ cameras toward the source of a detected threat.

The updates will be available to existing customers in the fourth quarter of 2026. Administrators will receive release notes ahead of the rollout, and the updates will be delivered over the network directly to edge sensors without additional backend server infrastructure.
