Annual Holiday Food Drive Unites Security Sector Against Hunger

The seventh annual CAN DO Challenge aims to combat hunger through local volunteer work and virtual food donations through Dec. 1.

The Security Industry Association Women in Security Forum has launched its seventh annual charity initiative aimed at addressing hunger during the upcoming holiday season.

The effort, known as the CAN DO Challenge, runs through Dec. 1 and calls on security professionals and organizations to participate through volunteer work, monetary contributions and food drives.

This year’s campaign features two primary tracks for participation: a local community initiative and a virtual food drive. Under the local track, participants are encouraged to organize workplace food drives, volunteer at local shelters or deliver meals to senior citizens. The virtual component allows supporters to donate directly to the Food Bank for New York City, where each dollar contributed supplies five meals to families in need.

As part of the campaign, charity organization Mission 500 will match donations up to $2,500 made at its booth during the upcoming ISC East trade show.

The initiative is organized by the forum’s UpliftHER Subcommittee. In addition to community service projects, the Women in Security Forum manages professional development programs, educational scholarships and networking events across the security sector.
