SoundThinking Expands PlateRanger Oversight and Evidence Tools

New reporting and auditing features track investigative results, while a planned addition will authenticate video during recording.

Law enforcement agencies using PlateRanger have new tools to document investigative results and review system activity, according to SoundThinking.

The updates to the license plate recognition platform include PlateRanger Outcomes, an available feature that links alerts with arrests, vehicle recoveries and investigations. These results can be viewed through a dashboard.

Expanded auditing records administrative actions and changes to system settings. The new features build on existing safeguards that limit access based on an employee’s role, require users to justify searches and maintain records of system activity.

SoundThinking also announced GoSecure, a planned feature that will use cryptography to verify video authenticity as footage is recorded. It is intended for PlateRanger Edge Max cameras and cameras running Axis Agent.

The additions build on existing technology that lets agencies vary how long they retain vehicle records based on investigative relevance. Agencies could delete routine records after two days while preserving information connected to investigations for at least 90 days, depending on their policies.

SoundThinking said agencies retain ownership of their data and determine which outside organizations may access it.
