PrivacySafe Foundation Releases Free Open Source Cybersecurity Tools

A nonprofit released 57 open-source defensive scripts targeting critical flaws across major web platforms like WordPress and Drupal.

Cybersecurity administrators facing critical infrastructure vulnerabilities now have access to a suite of free defensive scripts developed by the PrivacySafe Foundation.

The nonprofit public charity launched a collection of 57 open-source security tools engineered to identify vulnerabilities, monitor attack activity and harden network environments. The toolset covers 139 security flaws across 67 separate software projects and 10 common programming languages, including PHP, Node.js, Python and Ruby.

A central target of the defensive release is PHP2Shell, a severe vulnerability impacting PHP, an underlying web scripting engine that supports nearly 70% of online domains. The software powers core online services and content management platforms such as WordPress, Drupal, Wikipedia and GitLab.

The emergency release provided preliminary protections for system operators before official project updates were issued. Beyond PHP, the tools address vulnerabilities connected to Google Brotli compression engine, compromised HTTPS certificates and various application dependencies.

Most of the scripts function nondestructively, allowing system administrators to audit configurations and evaluate potential attack exposure without altering system code directly.

The defensive rollouts follow an increase in automated vulnerability discoveries. International research teams utilizing generative artificial intelligence tools from Anthropic and OpenAI identified several major flaws disclosed this month, including the PHP2Shell exploit and security issues affecting OpenAI public forums.
