ISC West Lives Up To The Hype

Traffic and attendance seem to be up from years past. It’s no wonder because the tradeshow is living up to all expectations. In fact, as attendees crowded the open doors at 10 a.m., one such person wondered if they served grain on this cattle drive.
Yes, there were that many people clambering to get in the front gates.
My morning started with Fredrik Nilsson, general manager for Axis Communications, announcing a new generation network camera with H.264 performance. What I like about the P3301 network camera is the compact design, which constitutes the perfect solution for indoor video surveillance systems. This new generation of network video products will be able to take full advantage of the in-house developed ARTPEC-3 chip.
Asked how the company will fare during these times of economic uncertainty (I don’t like the work recession), Bodil Sonesson-Gallon, vice president of sales at Axis, said it’s a matter of “education of the market.” I think part of winning any battle is thinking positive and Sonesson-Gallon makes an excellent point.
On to DSC, marketing director Marilee Harris introduced that company’s 9047 wireless product, which is touted as a quick install and quality product. Today’s show daily e-newsletter from Las Vegas also has a podcast with DSC’s Mike DeMille, the product manager. DeMille talks about trends in the industry, and it’s worth a listen.
Meeting up with good friend Tony Byerly, Stanley Convergent Systems, we are plotting some editorial content for coming issues that I think you’ll find interesting in the monitoring space.
I also spent lunch with Frank Abram, vice president and general manager of Sanyo. We talked about IP cameras vs. analog products, and while the company is successfully involved in both spaces, analog cameras aren’t going away any time soon. Abram said they still have lots of customers asking about and buying analog cameras.
I’m always impressed with what are ISC West and Reed Exhibitions. They do a marvelous job making this tradeshow a success.
