HID Global Honored For Support Of Connecticut Career Choice Program

HID Global recently announced that its Connecticut manufacturing facility is to be honored by Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele, in recognition of the company’s efforts and continued support of the Connecticut Career Choice (CCC) program.

As part of this honor, Connecticut’s lieutenant governor visited HID Global’s North Haven facility to tour the company’s offices and meet with the employees and management team.

“We are pleased to work with the CCC in support of their state-wide initiatives,” said Paul Murphy, director of operations, Americas, HID Global. "This program plays a pivotal role in helping companies like HID to remain competitive at a time when the need for skilled technological resources is at a premium.”

In partnership with the CCC, HID Global actively participates in several key initiatives, including the Job Shadowing Program, which enables interested students to visit a business that is aligned with their potential course of study. HID also hosted a local teacher participating in the “teacher externship” program, who shadowed and worked in the company’s graphics department, including observing the latest trends with technology in manufacturing, which the teacher was able to take back to the students and apply to the classroom curriculum.

HID Global also participated in May's Connecticut Student Innovation Expo, a program where students are involved in year-long courses and programs that promote STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), then present information technology, e-commerce and science team projects to their peers.

Demonstrating strong community involvement and leadership, HID Global has displayed an ongoing commitment to the principles of Lean manufacturing, including effective implementation of systems, tools, techniques and technologies. The company’s North Haven facility has been recognized for its manufacturing accomplishments, having been awarded the 2007 Connecticut Gold Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing and the 2006 Connecticut Silver Shingo for World Class Leadership and Culture. In 2008, the company was awarded at the national level, with the Shingo Prize Bronze Medallion for Operational Excellence Business Program.

As the founder and former chief executive officer of Pinnacle Group in Stamford, Conn., Fedele has taken a special interest in actively promoting both the efforts of the CCC and small business growth throughout the state. Implemented by the Office for Workforce Competitiveness (OWC) in partnership with the Battelle Memorial Technology Partnership Practice (Battelle), the CCC workforce development initiative fosters education, training, attraction and retention of skilled technology workers in Connecticut.

A crucial component of the state’s long-term strategy to develop a competitive technology workforce, the CCC develops curriculum and programs aimed at encouraging students and younger workers to stay within the state. With support of its state-wide partners, CCC has developed and implemented industry standards-based curriculum and experiential learning opportunities that are setting the groundwork and preparing a workforce ready to meet the demands of 21st century careers.
