Telcel, GE Security and Numerex Collaborate to Expand Wireless Security Monitoring

Numerex Corp., a provider of full-service, secure machine-to-machine network services and solutions, announced Tuesday that it has signed an international agreement with Telcel, a subsidiary of America Movil, and GE Security to provide the first supervised cellular alarm monitoring service for Telcel's customer base.

This collaborative undertaking combines the quality of GE hardware; the effectiveness of the Telcel distribution footprint and wireless network; and the M2M integration expertise of Numerex. The new product offering is scheduled to launch in late April 2009 and will eliminate the requirement of a traditional phone line for alarm monitoring, rendered useless when traditional lines are cut or out of service. GE, Telcel and Numerex believe that this service will result in a more reliable alarm connection to local Mexican central stations and a greater degree of safety to the subscribers of the service.

Carlos Pacheco, General Manager for GE Security, Latin America said, "This new foray into the Mexican residential and commercial security market validates GE's commitment to simplifying the user interface for alarm monitoring, which is a universal need that transcends borders. We are proud to work together with Telcel and Numerex to offer enhanced security to millions of Mexican consumers."

The product uses Telcel's GPRS network to send over an IP connection full data events to a central station in order to supply complete information to responding emergency units. In addition, it has the ability to deliver text messages to a subscriber's email-enabled devices. Numerex provides the complete range of gateway and backend services necessary for the efficient operation of the entire wireless security network.

"Telcel's selection underlines the service quality that GE and Numerex are already bringing to the US residential security customers," Mike Marett, Chief Operating Officer of Numerex, said of this agreement. "It is an operational blueprint for Latin America in general where there is a growing demand for such services."

The new service will be sold primarily through Telcel Retail Sales Centers initially in Mexico City and then released to customers across the rest of the country throughout the year.
