Xtralis ICAM Receives Approval To EN 54-20

Xtralis, a provider of intelligent fire and security solutions, recently announced that its ICAM range of early and very early warning fire detection products joins its VESDA technology in receiving the EC Certificate of Conformity and meeting the demanding requirements of EN 54-20.

As of May, both Xtralis VESDA and ICAM products are compliant with EN 54-20 which specifies the requirements, test methods and performance criteria for aspirating smoke detectors for use in fire detection and fire alarm systems installed in buildings.

It becomes a mandatory requirement across most of Europe by July and, for the first time, introduces performance requirements for high sensitivity detection systems. Testing of the Xtralis ICAM range was carried out by the accredited testing body, VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH of Cologne.

"We are proud to have achieved the EN54-20 approval across our broad, market-leading ASD product offering,” said Mariann McDonagh, senior vice president of corporate marketing for Xtralis. “Now consultants, partners and customers can specify the entire range of ICAM and VESDA products from Xtralis with the full confidence that they will be compliant upon installation and commissioning.

"This is particularly relevant in countries where CE marking under the Construction Product Directive (CPD) will be mandatory. However, even in territories where it is not mandatory, the Installation Codes (such a BS5839-1:2008) already recommend that ASD systems should comply with EN 54-20.”

The Xtralis VESDA and ICAM ranges were showcased this week at the International Firex exhibition.
