Von Duprin WS-Series Storm Shelter Exit Devices Meets ICC 500 & FEMA 361 Certification

Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies has announced that its Von Duprin WS9827/9927 surface vertical rod exit device has been certified to meet the new 2009 International Building Code standards that address the design and construction for structures that have been designated as either hurricane or tornado shelters. The new exit devices are certified to ICC 500 Standard for the Design and Construction of Storm Shelters, the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Publication 361 – Design and Construction Guidance for Community Safe Rooms, and the Florida Division of Emergency Management’s Enhanced Hurricane Protection Areas (EHPA).

“The Von Duprin WS-Series is the first exit device line to meet the new storm shelter standards,” emphasizes Bruce Reynolds, Von Duprin marketing manager. “By specifying the WS-Series exit devices for buildings that may be used to provide safe refuge from storms that produce high winds, such as hurricanes and tornados, builders and facility managers can be sure they are selecting an exit device that is certified and can be trusted to perform in severe wind conditions.”

Trim choices include thumbturn (key locks and unlocks), thumbturn escutcheon (always operable), lever (key locks and unlocks) and lever-blank escutcheon (always operable). Vertical rod and latch guards are available to protect the bottom rod of the exit device from damage by the impacts of carts and gurneys passing through doors. A variety of finishes is available.

Von Duprin manufactures the widest range of exit devices and outside trim operations, including rim-type and mortise lock, surface and concealed vertical rod, fire-rated and many electrical options. Security products include a full line of access control devices. More information is available at www.ingersollrand.vonduprin.com.
