Tennessee Department Of Corrections Awards Contract To Vicon Industries

Vicon Industries Inc., a designer and producer of integrated IP video surveillance and access control systems, has been awarded the contract to provide the Tennessee Department of Corrections with additions and upgrades to the surveillance and security systems installed throughout its state-run correctional facilities. This is the third consecutive year that Vicon cameras, network devices and software have been designated for use in this on-going project. ViconNet video management software is used to monitor prisoner activity and movement within each location as well as to facilitate remote video visitation between inmates and their visitors. The ViconNet software is controlled and the video is recorded using Kollector network DVRs. A variety of camera types, including many Vicon IP cameras, are employed at each facility, and the systems' first megapixel cameras are planned for installation later this year.

More than 20,000 inmates are currently held within Tennessee's state prison system, which includes 12 male and 2 female facilities. All inmates are required to work or attend school during their incarceration. They are supervised by a staff of more than 5,000 employees. The Tennessee Department of Corrections is nationally accredited by the American Correctional Association.
