Colorado Town Uses Microwave Radio System To Deliver Video Surveillance Traffic

Exalt Communications recently announced that the Town of Castle Rock, Colo. has deployed 10 Exalt EX-11s digital microwave radio systems to reliably deliver video surveillance traffic that helps protect its water distribution facilities.

The Town of Castle Rock is home to approximately 46,000 people and is located midway between Denver and Colorado Springs at an elevation of 6,200 feet.

"We were deploying video surveillance cameras at our wells, water distribution and processing facilities, and we wanted to build a high-speed, fault-tolerant Ethernet ring to link the video cameras with our operations center," said Gordon Tye, utilities system control network analyst for the Town of Castle Rock Utilities Department. "The Exalt radio systems have been completely reliable, and they deliver more than enough Ethernet bandwidth to meet our needs."

Denver-based KNS Communications, an Exalt Platinum Elite partner and designer and installer of microwave radio telemetry and communications systems, deployed the Exalt EX-11s systems.

"We carry numerous microwave radio brands, but at least 90 percent of the systems we deploy are Exalt because they are extremely reliable," said Sue Thomas, president of KNS. "We also get excellent service from Exalt and high performance from their radio systems, and that leads to really satisfied customers."

As configured for the Town of Castle Rock Utilities Department, the Exalt radios deliver the full 100 MBps of Ethernet with 99.99 percent throughput availability under all weather conditions and provide 4T1s per link.

"Today, protecting our water and energy resources from risk has become a high priority, and video surveillance is playing a key role in enhancing their security. Exalt microwave radio systems are the most cost-effective way to provide highly reliable, high-bandwidth communications and video surveillance backhaul for broadly distributed facilities," said Amir Zoufonoun, CEO of Exalt. "Our industry-leading performance and reliability make our microwave radio systems the preferred choice around the world for these types of applications."

All Exalt radio systems -- licensed and license-exempt -- are carrier-class systems delivering 99.99 percent link availability, guaranteed throughput and low, constant latency. Systems are available in FCC and ETSI frequencies from 2 to 40 GHz and in capacities up to 700 MBps per channel, providing a range of options to fit countless network applications.

Ask most companies about their future technology plans and the answers will most likely include AI. Then ask how they plan to deploy it, and that is where the responses may start to vary. Every company has unique surveillance requirements that are based on market focus, scale, scope, risk tolerance, geographic area and, of course, budget. Those factors all play a role in deciding how to configure a surveillance system, and how to effectively implement technologies like AI. Read Now
