Australian Customs Service Selects Network Video Solution From March Networks, Sun Microsystems

March Networks, a provider of intelligent IP video and business analysis applications, announced recently that the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service has selected the Company's VideoSphere solution to enhance its security operations in multiple airports across the country.

The integrated systems include March Networks' Video Management System (VMS) software and Edge encoders, as well as host and storage servers from Sun Microsystems.

Customs and Border Protection Service currently serves more than 20 million passengers annually at eight international airports throughout Australia, working closely with other government and international agencies to detect and deter the unlawful movement of goods and people. VideoSphere was selected based on the system's high reliability, advanced video management, and ability to support existing CCTV cameras.

"Our VideoSphere VMS-based systems deliver the centralized video management and live monitoring capabilities required to protect high-traffic ports of entry. Our open architecture allows the agency to easily deploy their systems over best-in-class Sun Fire servers, and benefit from the integration work undertaken through our recent partnership with Sun Microsystems," said Peter Strom, president and CEO, March Networks.

March Networks and Sun Microsystems entered into a global partnership in 2008 to help organizations deploy advanced surveillance applications and intelligently manage the convergence of IP video technologies and IT infrastructure.

March Networks VMS Application Server Bundles combine Sun's server platforms with pre-installed VideoSphere VMS software and IP camera connection licenses.

"Leading government and transportation agencies around the world are seeking to take advantage of next-generation surveillance technologies optimized to run over IP networks," said Darrell Jordan-Smith, vice president of industry vertical markets with Sun Microsystems Inc. "Our collaboration with March Networks combines industry-leading software and hardware products with common management software and a flexible architecture that can scale to support the most demanding security requirements."
