Silent Knight Donates Fire Protection System To Animal Shelter

Silent Knight by Honeywell and Spectrum Systems recently teamed-up to support the newly-constructed Riverside Regional Pet Center in Mankato, Minn., through the donation of an addressable IntelliKnight 5700 fire alarm, System Sensor detection devices and complete system installation.

This month, the animal sanctuary plans to open its new 6,266 square foot facility, designed to be a sustainable, environmentally-friendly shelter for approximately 80 animals.

Considering this facility's kenneled occupants, time is of the essence when responding to an event involving smoke and fire. The new shelter comprises a variety of rooms, including a garage, surgical/exam room, office space and separate kennel areas. To provide the center with a sophisticated system capable of quickly pinpointing the origin of emergencies, Spectrum Systems chose the IntelliKnight 5700 addressable fire alarm system from Silent Knight. The IntelliKnight Series offers an enhanced drift compensation feature to control detector sensitivities and reduce false alarms.

"We have always used Silent Knight to ensure our customers receive a top-of-the-line system that is easy to manage. The fact that the 5700 is addressable will allow the Humane Society to quickly and efficiently respond in case of a fire-related emergency," said Bill Winkler, president of Spectrum Systems, a Mankato, Minn.-based security and life safety systems integrator. "We are thankful for the opportunity to work together with Silent Knight and System Sensor to help with a good cause, and we look forward to the opening of the new shelter in the fall."

The Blue Earth Nicollet County Humane Society (BENCHS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a safe haven for homeless cats, dogs and other domesticated animals since 1977. Whether homeless, abandoned, injured or abused, BENCHS works to care, rehabilitate and shelter animals until they are adopted.

"The new shelter will be a showcase in our community, region and state. It is essential that the precious occupants of this beautifully designed building that's LEED-rated are protected by a system that's as sophisticated as Silent Knight's 5700," said Susan Kroon, BENCHS' board of directors' president. "We want to thank Silent Knight for gifting the shelter this wonderful system. The dogs and cats are so fortunate to have caring people reach out to them."
