Vancouver Transportation Authority Deploys Verint Technology

Verint Systems Inc. recently announced that TransLink, Vancouver’s regional transportation authority, has implemented the Nextiva Transit video solution from Verint Video Intelligence Solutions. Part of a planned, multi-phase security deployment, TransLink’s first investment in the video security technology took place onboard its fixed-route bus fleet to help enhance passenger and operator safety and security.

TransLink serves 21 municipalities in the greater Vancouver region with a fleet of 1,432 buses, two passenger ferries, 210 light rail cars, and five commuter rail trains with 37 passenger cars. This vast network has rapidly grown as it prepares to deliver an estimated one million rides each day during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The initial implementation, completed in December, includes the installation of Nextiva Transit on 228 electric trolley buses based out of the Vancouver Transit Center. With Verint’s networked video technology, the regional transportation authority is furthering its focus on passenger and driver security. “Translink is pleased to be partnered with Verint as we take forward this important investment across our bus fleet,” said Ward Clapham, chief officer of the TransLink Transit Police “The Nextiva Transit technology will not only help enhance safety and security by deterring onboard incidents, it also will enable us to provide video support when needed to quickly investigate claims and support law enforcement when prosecution instances occur.”

Leveraging Verint’s Nextiva solution specifically designed for transit operations, TransLink will benefit from the ability to automatically upload video from its buses to the central monitoring system, while providing efficient video management of TransLink’s entire on-board network. With automatic system health monitoring, camera tampering detection and proactive problem notification, Nextiva will help TransLink maintain the highest level of security and safety standards, while meeting compliance regulations.
