Security Industry Looking To Rebound

If ISC West serves as an indication of the industry, then security is starting to rebound strongly. The buzz on the show floor was the noticeable rise in visitor traffic as compared to last year’s show, and exhibitors unveiled some amazing products and news on the first day of the show.

FLIR Guardsmen

FLIR's Guardmen is a handhelp thermal security camera that displays gray scale and color thermal images.

FLIR launched the Guardsman handheld thermal security camera at ISC West, and I got a chance to test it on the show floor.  The lightweight camera lets security professionals see in total darkness, providing gray scale and color thermal imaging, and displays a digital temperature of objects. With a 24- and 7-degree lens, and a 2× lens extender option for the 24-degree lens, the camera provides maximum imaging flexibility.

Stanley makes access control simple for dealers and installers with their new iPAC Two-Door Controller and Readykey Retrofit Kit.

iPAC

Stanley's iPac Two-Door Controller and Readykey Retrofit Kit.

“The new iPAC controller is a true ‘out of the box’ solution that uses Microsoft Windows® CE, allowing end users to install, set up and program access privileges using a built-in smartphone display, instead of a PC,” said Bruce Ginnever, vice president of product management at Stanley. “For those users who prefer to use a PC, the controller also can be accessed with an Internet browser.”

The Retrofit Kit provides a dealer-friendly solution that eliminates the need for a system replacement when faced with obsolescence.

EDS2100

Lantronix's EDS2100 Device Server.

Lantronix launched the EDS1100 and EDS2100 Device Servers, designed to increase the level of transmission security for patient records, financial and customer information.  Available with Linux and IPv6, the EDS1100/2100 is ideal for critical data that needs to be remotely and securely accessed anywhere, at any time, via the Internet.

For high-threat environments, the products provide simple-to-configure, enterprise-level protection of electronic data using SSH and SSL. Users can quickly and securely network remote equipment, and VIP Access enables highly secure remote access and management of equipment behind firewalls.

Towards the end of the day, RISCO Group and Panasonic hosted receptions at their booths.

Risco held a champagne reception with chocolate-covered strawberries to toast the future of RISCO Group USA. The party declared RISCO’s entrance and solid position in the U.S. market.

PSNA

Panasonic is planning to expand its security system solutions beyond video surveillance systems.

Panasonic’s reception announced the company’s expansion of  its offering of system solutions for professional security applications beyond the company's leading line of video surveillance systems. Recognizing the industry's need for advanced telecommunications systems and the overall efficiency of video conferencing to supplement core security operations, Panasonic is displaying its innovative new IP PBX Communication System, Color Touchscreen IP Phone, HD Visual Communications System and POS Workstation alongside the company's latest video surveillance introductions.

Stay tuned for more exciting news from the second day of the show!

  • The Future is Happening Outside the Cloud

For years, the cloud has captivated the physical security industry. And for good reason. Remote access, elastic scalability and simplified maintenance reshaped how we think about deploying and managing systems. But as the number of cameras grows and resolutions push from HD to 4K and beyond, the cloud’s limits are becoming unavoidable. Bandwidth bottlenecks. Latency lags. Rising storage costs. These are not abstract concerns. Read Now

    A8V MIND

Hexagon’s Geosystems presents a portable version of its Accur8vision detection system. A rugged all-in-one solution, the A8V MIND (Mobile Intrusion Detection) is designed to provide flexible protection of critical outdoor infrastructure and objects. Hexagon’s Accur8vision is a volumetric detection system that employs LiDAR technology to safeguard entire areas. Whenever it detects movement in a specified zone, it automatically differentiates a threat from a nonthreat, and immediately notifies security staff if necessary. Person detection is carried out within a radius of 80 meters from this device. Connected remotely via a portable computer device, it enables remote surveillance and does not depend on security staff patrolling the area.
