ISC West Indicates Bright Year For Security Industry

The second day at ISC West did not disappoint.  Visitor traffic was as high as the first day, and aptly maneuvering through the bustling crowd became an acquired skill for Security Products editors as we hurried to and from booth interviews, product demos and press briefings. The products and news we encountered on the second day also were as ground-breaking and exciting as the first.

The New Samsung

Samsung Techwin's SGR-1 Security Solution features autonomous tracking, low-light high-resolution camera, an illuminator and a large range finder.

One of the most exciting announcements at the show was Samsung Techwin America’s launch of a new business initiative called Vision 2010. Lead by Frank DeFina, senior vice president of sales and marketing, North America, Samsung Techwin America, Vision 2010 will establish Samsung as a comprehensive supplier of security systems, including video surveillance, access control, intrusion detection and alarm systems. In support of this initiative, Samsung is displaying numerous new products, including a new series of 1.3 megapixel IP cameras with WiseNet digital signal processing, a new series of H.264 DVRs in models offering four to 16 channels, a new series of high-performance analog cameras with the W5 chipset, and a new series of UTP cameras and accessories.

On display was the SGR-1 Security Solution that features autonomous tracking, low-light high-resolution camera, an illuminator and a large range finder. The weapons station can commodate non-lethal and lethal weapons and the surveillance module features autonomous detecting, a low-light high-resolution camera and a thermal camera. The robotic surveillance product is extremely effective in remote surveillance solutions and provides immediate response to threats. It minimizes man power, directs strike teams to problem areas and reduces potential threats.

The iPOLIS, a network-centric surveillance solution, was impressive to see. With the iPOLIS line of products, clear digital images are transmitted over the Internet for real-time monitoring anywhere with an Internet connection. With proprietary SV and Winner DSP chipsets, IPOLIS network cameras capture clear images at high resolutions even at the lowest light levels, and transmit distortion-free images over the network. MPEG-4 and JPEG compression provides optimal quality images for the available bandwidth, and D1 images can be transferred at up to 30 fps for clearer, smoother playback.

The Re-invention of ISC East
Samsung monitorAt SIA’s Product Showcase, Richard Chase, SIA’s CEO, announced that ISC East, taking place in New York on Nov. 3 – 4, is being reinvented as ISC Solutions. This year, ISC Solutions will present the products and solutions for the emerging vertical sectors in health care, retail, education/campus and government. The exhibits will be segmented by technology/applications, and a new “solutions hub” will serve as a resource center, offering organized information for end-users. Each year, ISC Solutions will have a theme, defined by the direction of the industry and the technologies and solutions that are driving the market.

As ISC West draws to a close, the Security Products team leaves with valuable gained insight, new industry contacts and exciting new stories to share with our readers in the coming months. We saw some incredible products and solutions, and the ones that generated the most talk amongst the editors were FLIR’s handheld thermal camera, Samsung’s megapixel cameras, Panasonic’s VC500 HD Visual Communications System and Sarnoff’s walkthrough iris recognition technology. Look for more information regarding these products in future issues of Security Products and on our Web site.
