Security a la Mexico

En Espanol

Security Products is trying something new this year: I will be reporting live from Expo Seguridad Mexico in Mexico City, and we’re glad that you will be a part of our first venture into security south of the border.

Security is not only a big issue on the Mexican border, but in all of Latin America. We want you to know what's happening in this rapidly growing market, so I will be reporting from the show each day. Also planned are a couple of podcasts -- in English and in Spanish -- to supplement our editorial content.

In this e-newsletter, you will find a case study -- written in English as well as in Spanish -- about Mexipuerto Ciudad Azteca's, Mexico City's large subway station, mission to ensure the safety of more than 150,000 daily passengers.

Why Mexico? The security issue addressed in the case study and the equipment used to resolve it is critical information for our southern neighbors.

CNN recently ran a chilling video -- captured by a security camera -- showing more than a dozen men going on a shooting spree in broad daylight in the state of Chihuahua. As a result of the rampage, eight people died. We’ve reported many times that the drug cartels are alive and well along the southern border of the United States, and the video captures what an uphill battle the Mexican government is facing in eliminating them.

The captured footage could be critical in capturing some of the major players in Chihuahua's two warring groups, the Sinaloa Cartel and the Juarez Cartel; however, gang wars aren't Latin America's own concerns. Like in the U.S., Latin American governments want to keep its citizens safe.

I look forward to providing you with the latest news and events from Mexico City. Stay tuned and watch for daily updates throughout next week.
