Housing Development Selects KABA Electronic RFID Locking System

KABA Multihousing has successfully completed the installation of its new RezShield electronic RFID locking system at Chapelview Apartments in Brampton, Ontario in Canada.

The building consists of six levels of underground municipal and residential parking, and 15 stories (200 units) of affordable housing targeted for people with disabilities and low-income seniors and singles.

Chapelview Apartments is a joint venture between the Region of Peel, the City of Brampton, and Martinway Developments Ltd.  John D'Angelo, President of Martinway, was instrumental in the specification and procurement of all products required for Chapelview Apartments to seek Platinum Level status for LEED certification -- which will be the first in Canadian social housing.

The RezShield system enables Chapelview to have greater control over risk management issues compared to traditional locking systems. An audit trail records the lock's history, and the system generates various custom reports.

In the event of a lost "key" (actually a smart credential), a replacement can be made almost immediately, while cancelling out the previous "key" without having to visit the door or get maintenance involved. RezShield software also allows for improved staff management, as the credentials can be programmed to record the doors where they have been used.

D'Angelo notes that residents are already well adjusted to the electronic door locking system. After just three months since the opening of Chapelview, he said, "There's nothing not to like about it. The system and locks are viewed as luxury items, yet everyone has found them simple and very easy to use with contactless cards and fobs."
