KineticD Acquires ROBOBAK Provider of HybridCloud Backup Software

KineticD has completed its acquisition of ROBOBAK, which provides hybrid-cloud backup software for MSPs and the remote offices/branch offices (ROBO) of small enterprises. The acquisition significantly expands the company's portfolio of SaaS and software offerings that can now accelerate cloud backup and recovery solutions for businesses, MSPs, OEM partners, SMB resellers and small enterprise VARs.

As KineticD extends its offering to resellers, private-label partners and more than 40,000 users, it has seen a growing demand for disaster readiness solutions that include file servers as well as commonly used server-side applications such as Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server and Microsoft Small Business Server. Additionally, ROBOBAK's agentless backup technology enables centralized disk-to-disk-to-cloud backup solutions across distributed networks with many remote or branch offices. ROBOBAK has technology for block level data de-duplication, agentless backup capabilities and the ability to keep local copies for rapid recovery and business continuity.

"Through this acquisition, KineticD will expand its reach into new markets and strengthen its position as a leader in providing businesses with the ability to continuously backup, restore, access and share information online from any location," said Jamie Brenzel, CEO and founder of KineticD. "Through the combined strength and experience of the ROBOBAK and KineticD teams, the company will continue to drive innovation and growth."

ROBOBAK's software, combined with KineticD's strength in the SaaS market, provides unique flexibility for MSPs, IT consultants and large enterprise VARs. The comprehensive solution will provide continuous protection that is non-invasive and ideally suited for use with diverse technologies and the day-to-day operations of business users, whether they are onsite, mobile or located in a remote office.

"Managed Service Providers (MSPs) are major resources for IT support to SMBs, and are a major channel for data backup services to this market," said James Bagley, senior analyst at Storage Strategies NOW. "With the acquisition of the technology from ROBOBAK, KineticD is positioned to meet the requirements of MSPs and expand its penetration in this space."

KineticD is in the process of integrating the ROBOBAK technology into its own offering. The capability of agentlessly backing up servers, networks and server side applications will be available to existing KineticD customers and partners before the end of the month. With the close of the acquisition, the majority of the ROBOBAK team becomes part of KineticD and all ROBOBAK day-to-day operations will be uninterrupted.

Recent data privacy regulations like GDPR in Europe and CPRA in California made waves when they first went into effect, forcing businesses to change the way they approach data collection and storage to continue operating in those markets. Even highly specific regulations like the U.S.’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) can have international reverberations – and this growing volume of legislation has continued to affect global supply chains in a variety of different ways.
