Wireless IP Video Keeps Watch Over Pakistani Community

IndigoVision’s complete IP video security solution, including the latest HD IP cameras, is helping to protect a luxury residential community in Pakistan.

Located in Lahore, Pakistan’s cultural centre and Punjab province’s capital, the community was built and is operated by Bahria Town, an innovative real estate and construction business that has a number of iconic developments to its name.

The residential community is set along side the Lahore Canal and consists of high specification housing, health facilities, schools, community centre, entertainment and a business district. It is the largest real estate development in Asia.

“With threats from terrorism, vandalism and burglary, security is of prime importance to our residents. Investing in the very best surveillance technology was therefore a priority,” said Babar Rustam Tanoli, general manager (operations) for Bahria Town’s Lahore development. “IndigoVision’s system gives us amazing video quality and intuitive Video Management Software enables our security team to quickly identify potential problems and respond accordingly. Forensic analysis of the archived video has already led to a number of arrests. Knowing the community has a state-of-the-art surveillance system is in itself a deterrence.”

The project was designed and installed by IndigoVision’s Approved Partner, Votel Solutions, who deployed the system using a point-to-multipoint (PTMP) wireless network with 10 access points and 2 backhaul links.

Commenting on the choice of IndigoVision for the project, Qasim Abbas, Votel Solutions' Associate Director said, “IndigoVision’s excellent H.264 compression technology, flexible distributed architecture and unique motion analytics were all features that set the company ahead of the competition. The ability to stream high-quality video, including from HD cameras, across the wireless mesh has made this project viable and cost effective for Bahria Town.”

A mix of IndigoVision’s day/night fixed and PTZ IP cameras are deployed to monitor critical public areas such as schools, hospitals and community centers. Fixed HD cameras are used at all the entry/exit points to record vehicle license plates and for facial recognition. Currently these are archived for later analysis if required, however Votel Solutions are currently deploying an in-house developed forensic analysis application, which will integrate with the IP Video system and enable real-time authentication.

‘Control Center’, IndigoVision’s Security Management Software, allow the operators to view live video and quickly analyze post-incident recorded video. Features such as thumbnail motion search, interactive maps, sequences and guard tours have helped Bahria Town to improve operator efficiency and incident response - all with fewer security personnel. ‘Control Center’ is licensed on an unrestricted basis within the cost of IndigoVision’s hardware, allowing 4 workstations to be deployed in the main control room for no more than the cost of the PC equipment.

Video from all the cameras is recorded on an IndigoVision Windows Network Video Recorder (WinNVR) server with 1 TB of storage for 7 days. It is then archived onto NetApp FAS 2020 storage for a further 30 days. Evidential quality video clips are exported for use by the police, who view them on IndigoVision’s standalone Incident Player application.

IndigoVision’s solution has a integration capability allowing seamless integration with other security systems. In a second stage to the project Votel Solutions will use this functionality to interface systems such as automatic barrier control into the IP Video system, further improving security efficiency and quickly alerting operators to potential incidents at the entry/exit points.

“Bahria Town is committed to developing innovative, pioneering and value driven residential communities that become Lifestyle Destinations,” said Malik Riaz, Bahria town’s chairman. “Ensuring the security of our communities is at the heart of our design process and we partner with the best security vendors to attain leading-edge solutions.”
