Australia's Largest Retailer Enhances Surveillance Across 1,300 Sites

Woolworth's Limited, an Australian retail market, will soon deploy new visual intelligence software across thousands of existing March Networks video recording systems in a phased upgrade program. The software delivers enhanced live monitoring and searching capabilities that make it even easier for the retailer to centrally manage surveillance video used for security and loss prevention in more than 1,300 remote locations.

“We selected March Networks after evaluating multiple competitive units in our IT labs, and continue to expand with the solution,” said Darin Crofts, Woolworths’ Loss Prevention Manager responsible for special projects. “The software and systems are very easy to use and extremely reliable. They provide the high-quality video evidence and case management tools we need to identify and act on suspicious behavior quickly. As a result, we have seen clear returns through reduced shrinkage and fewer liability claims.”

The solution’s remote video access capability is essential for Woolworths’ Loss Prevention and Health, Safety and Environment staff, who would otherwise have to drive as many as 12 hours one way to pull video evidence manually from a store location. In addition, the software incorporates advanced video compression technology and bandwidth limiting features that make it possible to access video over the network without impacting core business operations – even from rural store locations with a maximum bandwidth capacity of just 64 kb/s.

“We are proud to continue our partnership with Woolworths and remain focused on evolving our retail solutions to help customers save time, improve operations and extract valuable business intelligence from the video surveillance network they are already using to protect their customers and assets," said Net Payne, Chief Marketing Officer, March Networks. "Our solutions provide retailers with the tools they need to significantly reduce losses from theft and fraud, while delivering the reliability and ease-of-use that sets them apart in the industry.”

The complete March Networks retail solution also includes Retail Transaction Investigation (RTI) software to support advanced loss prevention efforts. The RTI software combines critical visual evidence with transaction data from point-of-sale systems, enabling investigators to swiftly identify and review suspicious transactions, strengthen case evidence and improve recoveries.
