Fantastic Turnout at ISC West

Is the show hall bigger than last year, or are there more people attending 2012 ISC West? Or am I imagining things?

What a great first day of this year’s version of the security tradeshow. I’ve seen a few things that are pretty incredible.

Samsung Techwin introduces an intelligent surveillance and security system that has no rival. It is the SGR-1 and SGR-2. In other words, it is a robot used mainly for perimeter security; however, along the DMZ of South Korea and its bitter enemy, North Korea, it better used for border security.

SGR-1’s tracking and surveillance modules operate independently of each other, which allows targets to be tracked while the surveillance module continues to search for other targets. Best of all: No blind spots. The surveillance modules work well in low light with a high-resolution camera, including a thermal camera.

Its application includes border security along territorial perimeters and coastlines. It can be deployed in airports and seaports, and works equally well at a power plant, pipelines, dams and historic sites. Can it be used on the southern border of the United States? Probably not today because the system does not employ artificial intelligence and cannot distinguish between the drug dealer and the guy trying to sneak across the border trying to better his own life and that of his family.

Speaking of thermal advantages, FLIR Systems introduces its new A310F and A310PT, which will offer a precise temperature measurement of everything within its field of view. The dual role cameras that allow the operator to remotely monitor the condition of components within a substation. The technology also provides rock-solid perimeter security, while at the same time, allow uninterrupted, real-time temperature measurement  of difference analysis.

The PT version is a pan-tilt system with two environmental housings; its cousin, the A310 is a day/night 36x zoom color CCD camera.

With cameras in mind, Arecont Vision debuted its wide dynamic range megapixel cameras. The new WDR cameras provide a low-cost megapixel solution for mainstream applications. The company also is shipping its new Megadome 2 next-generation, all-in-one cameras. The full-featured cameras are H.264 ready with megapixel resolution, including remote focus, zoom, day/night and auto-iris capabilities.

Quotes of the Day

“The security industry is experiencing rapid changes, new customers and new ideas. We have to know where we are headed, and we have to continue reinventing ourselves,” Alan Forman, president and CEO of Altronix.

More to come from Altonix. Stay tuned.

“Consider the lifestyle enhancements from security systems today. We expect our systems to reach out and touch you with interactive services,” Scott Harkins, general manager of Honeywell Security USA.

Security and technology has touched all of our lives. Honeywell is introducing about 90 new products this week and in the very near future.

More ideas coming from the show floor tomorrow. I hope your first day of ISC West was as exciting as mine. It is great to see so many people in the industry seeking information on new products and enduring ideas.
