Samsung Unveils New VGA-Resolution Compact Cameras

Samsung Techwin America, a global supplier of video surveillance and security products delivering superior performance and value, introduces a new line of compact network cameras providing high-quality VGA-resolution images for applications such as small business and retail locations. New Samsung iPOLiS VGA network cameras include a discreet, compact box camera; a fixed-lens dome camera; and a vari- focal network dome. The new cameras offer advanced features such as face detection analytics, third-generation noise reduction for superior low-light performance (0.7 lux at F1.2) and Samsung Super Dynamic Range to increase the span of gradations from light to dark areas in an image.

“Network cameras are available now for a broader range of applications, including small installations like those typically found in retail stores,” said Frank De Fina, senior vice president of Sales and Marketing, North America, Samsung Techwin America. “With these easy-to- install iPOLiS compact network cameras, Samsung offers affordable network video solutions that include advanced imaging capabilities.”

The new Samsung iPOLiS SNB-1001 offers general purpose VGA resolution in a discreet 2x3x4.5-inch camera that uses Samsung's WiseNetS DSP chip to deliver a host of advanced features, including motion detection (with four programmable zones), privacy masking, backlight compensation and Samsung Super Noise Reduction (SSNRIII) to eliminate image noise in low light conditions. A video output port (DIP connector) enables conventional analog control for easy on-site setup or for hybrid use as an analog camera. Suitable for applications in convenience stores and retail shops, the camera provides VGA resolution (640 x 480 pixels) at 30 frames per second (fps) using a 1⁄4 inch progressive scan CMOS sensor that can be multistreamed in H.264 or MJPEG compression formats. The camera may be powered by 12 volt DC or Power over Ethernet, and an SD Card Slot is included to provide edge storage.

Samsung iPOLiS SND-1011 is a new VGA fixed-lens (3mm) dome camera, and Samsung iPOLiS SND-1080 is a new vari-focal (2.3mm ~ 7.9mm) network dome camera. Providing light- bandwidth, high-quality images using specifications similar to the box camera, both are compact 4.5-inch domes suitable for small business and retail applications.
