Donated Wireless Security Systems Improving Odds for Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity of Broward was hit hard when thieves stole dozens of power and hand tools from a large container at the charity’s Fort Lauderdale construction site in late June.  John Ray III, president of Sonitrol of Fort Lauderdale, heard about the crime and quickly took action to ensure that Habitat’s storage containers would not be vulnerable again.

Ray donated state-of-the-art SonaVision wireless video security systems to protect Habitat for Humanity of Broward’s two jobsite containers.  “New wireless technology is great for spoiling burglars’ plans,” Ray said. “Habitat can move the video system around on construction jobsites without needing electricity.  If anyone tries to tamper with the containers, our central monitoring station will instantly know it and alert law enforcement.”

Habitat for Humanity of Broward’s volunteers have been temporarily sidelined since thieves broke into the container and stole tools, including table saws, chop saws, compressors, drills, ladders -- even 75 hammers, according to Perry Ecton, Habitat for Humanity of Broward executive director. The tools were being used at the Rock Island subdivision in Fort Lauderdale, where Habitat is completing the development of 30 homes. Since its inception 29 years ago, Habitat for Humanity of Broward  has partnered with 328 families in Broward County to provide simple, decent, affordable housing for families in need.

The South Florida community is stepping forward with used and new tools to replace those that were stolen, Ecton said.

Operating in Broward County since 1972, Sonitrol of Ft. Lauderdale is a fully-integrated electronic security provider offering Verified Intrusion Detection Systems, Remotely-managed Access Control, Internet-based CCTV systems, and Fire System Installation, Testing, & Monitoring.
