Study: Many IT Professionals Believe Cyber Security Has Increased

About 76 percent of security professionals believe U.S. cyer security has increased over the last 12 months, according to a new study the information risk and security performance management solutions company nCircle.

The company surveyed more than 547 respondents for its 2012 Information Security and Compliance Trend Study in the IT security industry, including senior management, IT operations, security professionals and risk and audit managers.

Highlights from the study include:
• For the third year in a row, and in spite of the changing threat landscape, the top security concerns continue to be advanced persistent threats, security compliance and cloud computing.
• 62% of security professionals believe cyber crime is the most significant threat category their organization faces.
• In spite of HIPAA and HITECH, 76% of security professionals believe the security of their personal health information has not improved in the last 24 months.

“It’s not good news that security professionals believe the increase in the threat environment is not being accompanied by an increase in effective security measures,” commented Elizabeth Ireland, vice president of marketing for nCircle. "Although security professionals believe there has been an increase in cyber security in the U.S., their confidence in the effectiveness of those efforts continues to decline across the board.”

The online study was conducted between April 19 and May 31, 2012, and covered a range of security topics. See the complete study here.
