Milestone Shows Off Web Client and More at ASIS

VMS provider Milestone Systems is always hard it work making its products better. And the company showed off a wealth of new and updated products at ASIS last week in Philadelphia.

Along with the release of XProtect Enterprise 8.1, XProtect Professional 8.1, XProtect Express 1.1, XProtect Essential 2.1 and XProtect Go 2.1, I got a look at Milestone’s new XProtect Web Client.

As the name suggests, the interface client is a streamlined web-based interface to view, playback and share video. Quick and easy access to the common VMS tasks makes it easy to use while featuring a touch-enabled design that speeds up tasks. The client is available to use on a wide variety of systems like Mac, Windows or Linux.

Christian Bohn, vice president of marketing and product management at Milestone, also gave me a hands-on demo of the Video Push feature. With the proliferation of mobile devices, the function allows users to push live video from a smartphone or tablet directly into XProtect for viewing, recording or sharing.

Milestone also is releasing an add-on product version and two free utilities. XProtect Screen Recorder 1.1 allows XProtect CMS to capture screen recordings of any Windows-based PC or POS terminal. The updated version includes improved performance and the ability to switch between users accounts and capture of the secondary screen only.

The Software Manager utility centralizes implementation of changes to the surveillance system while System Watch gives failure notification for hard drives, servers or cameras.

Once again, it was another great ASIS, and I’ll see everyone next year at ISC West in Las Vegas. In the meantime, keep watching Security-today.com for the latest on the security industry.
