Security Industry Association Voices Support for School Security Initiatives
Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Security Industry Association (SIA), Jay Hauhn, sent a letter to President Barack Obama on the subject of security in the nation’s schools.
In the letter, Hauhn said that SIA members are committed to working with the administration, Congress, law enforcement and the education community to develop reasonable public policy solutions that may help to avert events like the one that occurred in Newtown, CT.
“We understand that school safety is a complicated problem requiring input and expertise from various components of the private and public sectors,” said Hauhn. “A comprehensive solution to secured schools must foster collaboration across many sectors.”
To that end, SIA will soon announce a committee of experts that will share its technical expertise with the administration and Congress as they work to adopt new school security initiatives.
SIA represents more than 430 businesses and countless technology leaders, who work closely with local school officials across the country to develop security solutions to help keep our classrooms safe. The organization supports a holistic approach to school security that includes: funding for school security assessments; investment in technology, such as digital video cameras and access control systems; and emergency preparedness training for education and law enforcement personnel.
“As the leading voices within the electronic physical security industry, SIA members stand ready to partner with [the administration] and all stakeholders to address this important, public safety and education issue,” the letter concluded.
