Pivot3 Introduces HC-3 Healthcare Validated VDI

Pivot3 Introduces HC-3 Healthcare Validated VDIPivot3, a provider of VMware Horizon View converged storage and computer appliances, today announced HC-3, a validated and virtual, desktop infrastructure that integrates the technologies of several leading vendors into a simple, scalable and cost-effective VDI solution for the healthcare sector. Collaborating with VMware, Teradici, Samsung and Imprivata, Pivot3 now offers an appliance-based VDI solution that enables healthcare providers by providing the necessary infrastructure to improve hospital, desktop operations without the complexities and risks of having to build out and integrate a VDI infrastructure from scratch.

“Deploying VDI is well-documented to help drive compliance as it can improve the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare while also increasing the privacy and security of EHRs,” said Brett Waldman, research manager, client virtualization software at IDC. “A top pain point for healthcare CIOs has been deploying and managing clinical and administrative desktops, and Pivot3’s HC-3 has the potential to reduce much of this pain.”

Certified through the VMware AlwaysOn Point of Care validated design, Pivot3’s HC-3 integrates all of the storage and server hardware, desktop virtualization software, single sign-on and authentication management software, and endpoints in a simple-to-deploy appliance model. HC-3 can further simplify healthcare VDI deployments by providing a pre-configured, “view-in-a-box,” HC-3 pilot bundle, which can then be scaled out seamlessly from pilot to production. Pivot3 VDI appliances can support up to 125 desktops each, offering a cost-effective, pay-as-you-grow, pricing model that reduces both capital and operating expenses.

“The HC-3 bundle from Pivot3 can help simplify infrastructure hurdles and can accelerate the time to value of delivering VMware Horizon View to healthcare providers,” said Mason Uyeda, director, technical and solution marketing, VMware. “VMware is pleased to collaborate with our partners to deliver a robust VDI offering to our customers.”

Pivot3 HC-3 provides users with connectivity to desktops through any endpoint device from anywhere, allowing for non-stop access and improving patient care through Follow Me, virtual desktop capabilities. Samsung NC-Series zero-client cloud displays, powered by Teradici TERA2, and Samsung mobile PCs and tablets, together with Imprivata OneSign Virtual Desktop Access, provide clinicians with non-stop access to virtual desktops with fast logon times through any endpoint device and from any location through the swipe of a badge or the tap of a fingerprint. The HC-3 bundle also includes the Teradici APEX 2800 server offload card, ensuring the success of VMware Horizon View deployments by offloading the PCoIP encoding tasks from the CPU. This provides a better and more consistent user experience for heavy, multimedia workloads as well as increased consolidation ratio on the system.

“The HC-3 bundle allows us to demonstrate the power and versatility of the Samsung line up of healthcare information endpoints,” commented Tod Pike, senior vice president at Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division. “Whether you are accessing via a cloud display or on a Samsung mobile device using the remote virtualized desktop, the HC-3 infrastructure offers healthcare providers the ability to access information anywhere, at any time.”

“Care providers want fast, easy access to patient information wherever they need it – throughout the hospital, in clinics, and at home,” said Geoff Hogan, SVP of business development at Imprivata. “Imprivata is pleased to collaborate with Pivot3, VMware, Teradici and Samsung on this offering. Healthcare CIOs will appreciate the integrated package, streamlined management and no-click access experience to roaming desktops for their providers.”

“Over the last year, our customers have loved our ability to deliver a ‘view-in-a-box’ solution that is simple to deploy, scales easily and is affordable,” said Olivier Thierry, chief marketing officer at Pivot3. “It made sense to further simplify the solution by integrating and going to market with other technologies that complement each other in a given market segment. It’s a win-win for customers and partners alike.”

HC-3 will be demonstrated at HIMSS March 4-6, 2013 at the Samsung booth No. 4281 and at the Pivot3 booth No. 770.

Pivot3’s HC-3 Healthcare Validated VDI is available today through authorized Pivot3 distributors. A Pivot3 HC-3 pilot bundle will be available through authorized distributors, late Q1/early Q2. For more information, please visit www.pivot3.com/solutions/HC-3.
