IED Expert Speaks about Explosive Devices and the Boston Marathon Incident

Featured on Wavy.com, Robert Morris, retired Col. from the US Army and the founder and leader of Global Campaign Against Improvised Explosive Devices, discusses the Boston Marathon incident that occurred yesterday, April 15 at the finale of the race.

Throughout his interview, Morris reveals some chilling facts about IEDs:

  • There are over 500 IED incidents per month around the worked outside of the borders of Afghanistan and Iraq.
  • On the day of the Newtown shootings, a student was arrested in Oklahoma for threatening to blow up his school.
  • According to the Joint IED Defeat Organization, the US is ranked among the top 5 of all countries with IED incidents within the country’s own borders.
  • Main target of IEDs – schools.
  • One out of every three arrests for IED incidents is a juvenile.

Even though the “loss of one human life is tragic and inexcusable,” Col. Robert Morris reminds us that we should be thankful for the minimum number of casualties at the Boston Marathon explosions.
