About the Author

David G. Patterson, CPP, PSP, is a principal partner in Patterson & Associates International Consulting, an international corporate security consulting firm. Patterson has over 30 years’ experience as a corporate safety and security manager and consultant for the worldwide operations of high technology companies, industrial companies, schools and the United States government. He is a recognized author and trainer with the ASIS Physical Security Council in the fields of security systems integration, project management, policies and procedures, safety and business continuity planning. He has also served on the faculty for the Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification reviews program.

Patterson has conducted in-depth antiterrorism assessments, risk analyses and vulnerability studies, and he has developed and implemented security and safety policies, standards and procedures for several organizations. In addition, he has designed complex access control, closed-circuit television, intrusion detection and alarm systems for large industrial sites, seaports, offshore facilities, airports, schools and building complexes.

He has performed numerous crime demographic studies and vulnerability assessments of properties. In addition, Patterson is qualified as a security expert witness in litigation involving allegations of crime foreseeability, inadequate security, faulty security systems, premises liability and security officer negligence.
