New NFL Bag Policy Forces Fans to Get Creative

New NFL Bag Policy Forces Fans to Get Creative

Alright football fans! The 2013-2014 season is already upon us; time to draft your teams for your fantasy football leagues (Hint: I’d go for Adrian Peterson from Minnesota for a running back), and start making plans for the "Big Game," initials S.B. (Oh, and our Pinterest has some awesome recipes!) But, before heading out to the stadium, remember, safety first.

In light of the Boston bombing incident, the NFL has decided on some new security measures that they hope will make pro-football games safe and secure for all spectators, players and coaches. In a nutshell, don’t bring bags, including diaper bags, backpacks or purses unless it’s clear, transparent, see-through. Oh, and by the way, no camera bags, briefcases, fanny packs, cinch bags, luggage of any type, computer bags, seat cushions or coolers are permitted either.

Whew! That’s a long list, so let’s focus on what IS permitted:

  • Only 1 bag per fan is permitted.
  • One-gallon, clear, plastic, freezer bags are permitted.
  • A clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag of any type not exceeding 12”x6”x12” is permitted.
  • Non-see-through, small clutches made of fabric, leather, etc. measuring 5”x8” are permitted. But, get out your rulers! That’s approximately the size of a sheet of notebook paper folded in half. Basically enough room for some money, credit cards and some lip balm.

Obviously, the overall key here is clear, unless you want to bring a small clutch. But not to worry, the NFL’s got your covered! They are selling clear totes with team logos so you can carry all your stuff with you to the game while showing your team spirit. (Can someone say, “cha-ching” to owners of NFL teams!?)

Although the NFL Committee on Stadium Security unanimously recommended the implementation of this measure in May 2013, concerned female fans are speaking out.

How do you feel regarding the NFL’s new bag policy?
