TSA PreCheck Program Expands to 60 New US Airports

Airport security is getting just a tad bit more lenient as more U.S. airports will allow passengers to sail through security protocols without removing their shoes, light jackets or belt all while allowing laptops and small liquids to remain inside carry-on bags. Of course, this is all pending the passenger is a member of PreCheck, an expedited screening program by the TSA.

TSA PreCheck Program Expands to 60 New US AirportsIn an effort to change its “one-size-fits-all-approach” to security, TSA is adding PreCheck to 60 new U.S. airports by the end of 2013 as well as increasing the number of lanes for this screening program at the 40 airports currently offering it.

All sound too good to be true?

Well, right now it is because only very frequent fliers who are invited by airlines and members of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s trusted traveler programs can participate.

But, don’t despair! Later in the year, TSA will launch an application process that includes paying an $85 fee, submitting fingerprints and participating in identity verification at an airport enrollment center.

Overall, PreCheck aims to base security more on risks that certain passengers may exhibit, rather than the whole traveling public, while providing the most effective airport security in the most efficient way possible.
