More Than an Eyeful

I'm impressed with the traffic at ASIS this year -- though some may not share the same sentiment -- I think the 2013 version has been terrific. It really is great to put hands on many people.

I think the buzzword this year is access control, however that does not diminish the many other new products you can see today at McCormick Place.

Milestone is unleashing the power of its Husky series of NVR appliances. From my perspective, it is easy to use, plug and play, and provides instant and remote access to live and recorded video. Oh yeah, it's available in 26 languages.

It is not always the big companies that attract attention. Heightened Security is based in Palm Desert, Calif., and they offer a perimeter solution that is quick, effective and affordable. In fact, end users can grow the solution as needed.

Here's what I found most interesting about this company. While Thomas M. Murphy is the president and founding partner, his investor and partner is none other than Jackie Autry. That's right, the former owner of the Los Angeles Angles major league baseball team and wife of the legendary actor and showman Gene Autry. Who said baseball and security don't mix?

Heightened Security provides solutions to transportation facilities, high-end gated communities, private estates, institutional and municipal facilities.

ComNet is introducing and has unleashed the power of a copper line small form factor pluggable device, which is a single port copper line of UTP. It extends the range of a PoE camera up to 3,000 feet from camera to NVR.

It fits in the palm of your hand but does the workload of an all-star short stop.

I looked at the next generation of Wi-Fi access control from ASSA ABLOY. They introduced the IN120 Wi-Fi lock that offers ease and flexibility, and who doesn't need that, in a streamlined design.

We're pleased to be able to honor and acknowledge the winners of our New Product of the Year product winners. We have handed out numerous awards that exhibitors have put in their booths. I hope you will ask them about their products and how they won.

This year's edition of ASIS is almost coming to a close. I hope the show has been good to everyone attending. It certainly has been a spectacular event.
