Back to the Future

Opening day at ISC West reminded me of opening day at the ballpark during baseball season. The crowds in the show hall were incredible, but then you saw that as you walked in the front doors at 10 a.m. yesterday.

ISC West (SIA) is a model tradeshow, and I'm happy to be part of it.

Here are a few products well worth checking out.

To help ease the transition from analog to IP surveillance systems for installers and end users, American Fibertek has introduced a new hybrid transmission product in a variety of configurations that deliver flexibility in terms of inputs and transmission channels. They have a complete lineup of products available to you during the tradeshow.

D-Link has introduced two new dome cameras designed for small- and medium-sized businesses and enterprises. Check this one out. The full HD mini pan and tilt dome network camera is a full 1080p HD resolution and 360 degree pan and 80 degree tilt. It also offers high-quality live viewing and reliable recording with full HD 16:9 widescreen IP video surveillance.

Sentry 360 kicked off the tradeshow early with a partner conference on Tuesday, where Rob Mossman, CEO of Isonas; Brian Hanson, partner relations manager at Prism Skylabs; Reiner Tuinzing, strategic alliance manager, Milestone Systems; and Thomas Carnevale, president and CEO, Sentry 360 spoke to an audience of more than 150 participants.

"We were really thrilled with our Spring 2014 Partner Confernce," Carnevale said. "Each year is a new opportunity to bring together the latest solutions, innovations and exciting new products all in one room."

For the media, the day and events begin with a press breakfast sponsored by Axis Communications. While the company is talking up their Power of 4 this year, the highlight is listening to Martin Gren, inventor of the IP camera. Gren certainly is one bright spot in the security industry and was recently inducted into the industry Hall of Fame. Well deserved.

Many media members capped off the night with the traditional dinner, called the Dark Restaurant society. This is a meal of friendship and gratitude sponsored by Frank DeFina, executive vice president of Samsung. After a first day or roaming the showroom floor, it's great to sit and talk things over with other members of the media.

I looked forward to another great day this morning, and hope your day at the tradeshow is equally successful.
