More Than 26,000 Industry Professionals Attend ISC West 2014

ISC West 2014, produced by ISC Events and sponsored by the Security Industry Association (SIA), attracted record attendance this year with more than 26,000 industry professionals attending the three-day exposition, which was held at the Sands Expo Convention Center in Las Vegas April 2-4.

Attendees enjoyed direct access to tens of thousands of products from more than 1,000 exhibiting companies and brands while maintaining its intimate, friendly approach with small industry and association gatherings, receptions and a show floor designed to group products and technologies together. A strong sense of community prevailed within the 2014 edition of ISC West, which was the largest since 2007 and the second largest in the history of the show.

"Exhibitors and attendees alike told us that ISC West 2014 was the best show they have seen in many years," said Ed Several, senior vice president at ISC Events. "ISC Events witnessed record attendance, even more show floor area and, most importantly, a valuable view of all that the industry offers. Our exhibitors indicated their appreciation with higher renewals for next year. This year's event was a great balance between seeing all the latest technologies and products in one place while being able to network at all of the many industry and association events. As always, we thank the security industry for showing such confidence in ISC West, and we thank the Security Industry Association for their hard work and support."

"SIA and ISC Events presented an incredible agenda of exhibits, networking events, education sessions and awards programs during ISC West 2014. ISC West remains the first industry event of the year at which cutting-edge security products are launched," said SIA CEO Don Erickson. "The ISC Events team worked seamlessly with SIA to provide first-class customer service to exhibitors and thousands of show attendees. The overwhelming participation in ISC West is a clear reflection of a strong, growing and vibrant industry."

SIA Education@ISC also presented an education conference with more than 70 sessions or programming in tracks specially designed for integrators, installers, dealers, end users and others. The education sessions experienced an estimated 33 percent increase in attendance in 2014 over 2013.

The three-day program, April 1-3, addressed a wide range of topics, including two tracks dedicated to technologies that are creating smarter buildings and cities and to helping business enterprises learn to use hidden business intelligence to drive bottom-line improvements. For the first time, the education program included five workshops exclusively dedicated to improving sales in the security industry.

SIA Education@ISC also offered four sessions in its School Safety Series to cover school security matters for K-12 and higher education campuses as well as a Learning Laboratory, which focused on essential basics of networking for video surveillance.

The SIA New Product Showcase (NPS) also set a record this year with 105 entries from 88 companies. In addition to honoring the Best New Product and the Judges' Choice Award, the NPS judges presented awards in 24 product and service categories, and they also presented six honorable mention awards in six categories.

SV3 from Building Intelligence Inc., New York, N.Y., took the Best New Product Award at the NPS Awards Ceremony on April 2. Australian company dFENCE took the Judges' Choice Award for its dFENCE mobile ballistic barrier product.

"Each year, the companies competing in SIA's New Product Showcase at ISC West present the leading-edge security solutions that are shaping the industry," said Erickson. "These new technologies and solutions are the drivers that are moving the security industry forward, and I congratulate Building Intelligence on their win at this year's NPS."

On April 2, SIA also presented a very successful inaugural plugfest featuring its Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDPTM). The SIA OSDP Plugfest and Cocktail Reception drew the participation of seven companies, including Allegion, Axis Communications, HID Global, IQ Devices, Mercury Systems and Siemens, which proved the interoperability of the networking protocol.

Finally, on April 3, SIA launched a revised exam for its Certified Security Project Manager (CSPM®) program. SIA will roll out the new CSPM® exam to all seeking CSPM® certification in the coming months.
